| Yes you can certainly speak of a very busy Elba weekend this year as well! Everything starts some days before the rally, when we desperately trying to get the bikes we want to attend the rally on, to be finished. A mail from a "certain" Mr. Brawn arrives, saying he would like to meet me and Dean at the imola race track where the F1 grand prix is taking place the same weekend as the rally. F.....g hell! There are weekends where you get bored to fuck and this one two things you hardly choose where to go. Anyway the decision is I am loading the bikes on the van and in the Friday morning pay a visit to our Lambretta friend (yes maybe not all knows that Ross is the happy owner of a Lambretta TV175 in the circuit, while Dean follows the heads the crew to the Isle; I will lately meet up with them on the road there. Although I'm not a big F1 enthusiast, I must admist that being there, escorted by Ross, has been an nubelievable experience; he has shown me the whole Ferrari world in a race track and I have also been allowed to assist the practise from the Ferrari box. Marvelous. Fortunately they have provided me with ear plugs, because the noise the car makes is ten times an 80s Mickeck exhaust. Enough said. But when I have told Ross I had an original 50s Lambretta racer and an "S" type replica with a Wal Phillips injector (he knows what I am talking of) he asked if I had parked the van far from the paddock. You can laugh but that's it. |

| We meet the
rest of the
crew not far from the ferry port, everything has been right on the way
there so everybody is ok. I report them my unbelievable Ferarri
experience
and soon we get to the port, where I have to wait the last ferry of the
day to go to the Isle with the van. Never mind, me and Luca spend the
time
having a fantastic "Caciucco" (Tuscany fish speciality) with a good
bottle
of white wine, that makes the three hours wait a lot better. Anyway we
arrive at the Campsite in time to watch the end of the Selecter
concert,
a big trip down memory lane!
The following morning we wake up in the usual fantastic Elba scenary, you forgot how nice the Isle is and every year you realize the Morcone beach, where the rally takes place is really breathless. A lot of people is still in bed, so we decide to head to Porto Azzurro for tea and tiffin. I use the D racer, using it on the twisty road of the Isle is an experience! As the rally will end up on Monday, which is holiday in Italy, everyone takes it very easy, and the scooter run is scheduled for Sunday. So at 11.30 we are ready for the trip, but nothing happens, as usual the previous night has been very hard for most people so when at 1 pm nothing has still happened we decide to go for lunch. In the restaurant there is the F1 going on the TV so we stay watching for Schumacher evolutions till the end. Now I undestand Ross' grinning and saying "we will see" when I asked how the weekend would have been. Then we go back to the campsite the scooter run has already set off, so we wait for them to come back and wait for the trophy presentation. The Elba rally confirms to be one of the best Italian events in the Italian scene, only shame about the weather, a bit sunny and warmer would have been the nuts. |
