Isle of Elba 2007

Here we go again! Another scooter season is about to start. As usual the first one is the Elba, which is now an international "must" of the scene, seen also this year's number of entrants from abroad. The number this years has scored a mere 900, considering the ferry nightmare which has seen a lot of people have not attended due to the fact they couldn't enter the boat, the impression is that logistically something has to be revised, at least this is the impression I've had.
We set off Friday morning at a comfortable 10.30 splitting in two groups one being formed by the English crew travelling with us in order to avoid a line of about 15 scoots all together. After a pleasant trip trouble free we check in for the 5.30 ferry in Piombino, where the situation is not as desperate as it will be soon.
We arrive in the Isle when the sun is going down and the scenery between Capoliveri and Morcone where the rally takes place is breathless as usual.
For the first two days the weather is also excellent; there is a lot of people sunbathing and making the first bath of the year.
The third day though during the usual ride out en masse to Cavo (the Elba is so nice another direction wouldn't be bad for next year) the pouring rain makes his appearance and a lot of people is not prepared for that, I see a lot of denim jackets and shorts, typically Italian.
At the campsite there are rumors it will be a nightmare with the ferry again at the end of the rally, but this time although we have booked for 2.30 in the afternoon, they allow us in the 9.30 am boat saving us a lot of time.
The ride back is a mix of sun and rain but around Siena we take a break in a fantastic little restaurant with a nice and sunny garden, then after some good food we get home in the late afternoon.
Another great time in the Isle, but I think next year something will need a revise seen the success this rally is having, also more people to manage means more problems, like for example the thief who has nicked Claudio's SX200 panels or the others who had nothing better to do than fighting for different political ideas.
We are the scooter fraternity and we come to enjoy ourselves; if this is not your meaning, please stay home.
