Perugia 2003

I realize this is my 11th Jamboree, again in Italy after 1997. Really not far from home, just 120 miles, we have organised the trip together with Eddie and Linda from Manchester, changing the favour they did us organising our stay for the IoM rally, the crew from Southend, really nice guys, cheers mates, Jurgen from Belgium together with two friends and Davide and his wife Alessandra who rides herself a modded up LI 125 series III which will be highly pictured during the week end. We left from the hotel they had filled in the nearby of Dean's shop in the late, very late morning, waiting for Top Thomas to arrive, he had left his bike at Dean's and coming down in a car he realized he had forgotten his helmet home, greetings Mr. TT. Anyway for about 11 we are settled to live, in about 30 scooters heading for a very pleasant trip over the hills. We realize soon we cannot ride all together, so we decide to split in various groups and the ride is a lot better, just stopping on top of the hills, about half way to some food and cold drink, it's so hot we desperately look for some shade. Anyway in the late afternoon we arrive in Assisi, where the Jamboree really take place, there's already a lot of people trying to find some refreshment in the Camping swimming pool. We get out souvenir bags then reach the not distant Hotel we have booked in advance for all where a nice shower is expecting us. Nice air conditioned inside, hot will be a problem all the week end long.

Saturday is really packed with events, a massive ride in the morning which is attended by a lot of people riding through very beautiful seightseens till the centre Square of Perugia where we park our scooters for the astonishment of the locals; we then head for a place where a massive meal has been organized in a gymnasyum, but it's so hot inside we only get our starters and pasta then we decide to come back to the campsite. I've missed the organized sprint and gymkana, but really I couldn't face it, so we spend the afternoon in the shade talking to Peter the webmaster of LCGB and other friends, having a few fresh drinks. Honestly a lot better, they guys in the Lambretta Club of Umbria have organized everything in the right way, but even the hot weather can be a problem. In the late afternoon we pay a visit to Assisi, a very ancient religious place, but absolutely a must to be seen.

In the evening we join the gala dinner and then decide to attend a do in Perugia for which a bus service is organized. We then reach the campsite in 25 inside the English van that has followed us all the trip and after the meal we head for the disco. Djing are Roccia a long time friend in the Italian scooter scene and another chap from UK sorry I can' remember the name. A pleasant event, only matter with the bus coming back because probably due to the fact there's not as much people as the expected the service starts again very late, so we finally go to bed a 5 o'clock in the morning. It's a nice and warm night and it's incredibly Jim decides he fells so well he will be doing the trip back to Rimini now!

We start our trip back as usual in the late morning, when everyone feels ok from the hard night. An overall good week end, I think the Italians have done a good job, next year will it will be held in Scotland, Kelso on 4 - 5 - 6th of June.
