Lambretta TV 200

Name of owner ; Dean Orton
Scooter Club ; Smart Drivers S.C.
Meeting Place ; ‘Goblin Pub’ in Santarcangelo  (Rimini) every Saturday night
Name of Scooter ; It doesn’t really have one, but at a push it would be “Spirit of ‘79”to keep Dez at ‘Gran Sport’ amused.
Scooter Model ; 1965 TV200
Inspiration for project ; This TV used to be my ‘field bike’ - until one fine day it basically collapsed whilst putting it on it’s stand outside the local bar. At that point I realised that it was either bin it, or restore it. The wife had been on at me to do another Mod scooter so out came the spanners.
Time to build ; On and off for about 6 months with all work done ‘in house’ at the shop.
Engine ; Totally bog standard TV200 .Rebuilt using all new Innocenti parts accumulated over a 10 year period. The only deviations from standard are a GP200 crank and flywheel and having the engine casings acid dipped to leave them gleaming. The exhaust is from Scootopia with an extra stainless pipe fitted-  to keep the crap off the rear wheel. The electrics are standard 6v and yes – the lights do work.
Top speed and cruising speed ; It was good for 70 mph before the mirrors went on. Now I’d guess that  anything over 55 mph would be a triumph of optimism over realism, as Sticky would say.
Is the scooter reliable ; It had better be - or it’s going back into the field .
Paintwork ; Done through the shop by Beppe and the chaps in Cattolica, Italy. Marvellous.
Hardest part of project ; The remade legshield toolbox was an absolute git to fit. I’d love to see the scooter they used as a pattern whilst designing it. Had it been run over by a tank ? Another problem was finding time to do it amongst customers scooters. Most of the scooter was built late at night or on Sunday’s.
Anything to add to the scooter ; A pair of ‘Super’ fork covers that I’m having chromed at this moment. And that’s it.
What other scooters do you have ? ; SX200 and sidecar, Indian Cento, Indian GP200, Gilera Runner 180, 1st Series Vespa 50 ,Jet 200
and a Vega / Lui 50 for daily use.
