Non conosco appassionato lambrettista al quale non piaccia la Lambretta TV 175 prima serie.

Oltre alla linea sicuramente riuscita, piace penso soprattutto perchè rappresenta il trait d'union fra diciamo la "vecchia" e la "nuova" era della Lambretta.

Leggo da diverse parti, non essendo io presente all'epoca, che impressionò molto il pubblico di appasionati e non all'epoca del suo lancio e lo credo bene, se al popolo lambrettista erano state fino a quel momento offerte al massimo le prestazioni della LD 150.

Per non parlare poi del fascino che emana su noi tutti quel blocco motore diverso da tutte le altre Lambretta prodotte, che se da un lato ha fatto soffrire non poco i possessori del periodo, come spesso accade nel mondo delle auto e moto d'epoca rappresenta oggi una chicca del passato visto l'esiguo numero di esemplari prodotti.

In un contesto di questo genere devo dire che cullavo da tempo il sogno di possederne una, ma nonostante la mia ormai lunga militanza nella scena scooteristica, non mi era mai capitato di imbattermi nella classica irrinunciabile occasione; anzi per la verità non mi ero mai imbattuto in una in vendita, a volte per questione di pochi minuti ad un mercatino.

Avevo ormai perso ogni speranza; lo spazio disponibile ormai completamente riempito da altri esemplari da un lato e le valutazioni sempre in crescita dall'altro mi avevano ormai fatto accantonare l'idea di aggiungere questo pregiato pezzo alla mia collezione.

A volte il caso e la fortuna ci mettono lo zampino e così succede che alla fine del 1999 un inviato della rivista inglese Scootering viene a casa mia per effettuare un servizio sulle Lambretta Racing Replica delle quali ho appena effettuato il restauro e dopo aver visionato la mia collezione ed aver effettuato il servizio fotografico, mi chiede se penso di aggiungerne ancora qualche altra oppure no.

E' a questo punto che antichi amori mai sopiti del tutto, risalgono la corrente e gli rispondo che ci sono due modelli che vorrei vedere nel mio garage da tanto tempo e sono come si può immaginare la Lambretta A e la TV 175 1a serie, le quali però hanno ormai raggiunto valutazioni da capogiro per cui non penso che ciò potrà accadere.

Dopo la pubblicazione del giornale numerosi amici mi hanno chiamato per congratularsi con me e fra questi anche il mio grande amico e pigmalione in campo lambrettistico Frans Hollander, Presidente del Lambretta Club Nederland, il quale dopo essersi complimentato con me, dice di aver letto del mio antico desiderio di trovare una TV 175 e mi dice che non devo più cercarla perchè lui ne ha una già smontata e completa alla quale necessita solo un accurato restauro e

"se la voglio è mia"

Questo quanto scrivevo appena ritirato il mezzo, nel frattempo la Lambretta è stata restaurata ed ha anche vinto il premio come miglior Lambretta restaurata al raduno dell'Isola d'Elba del 2006. Nel frattempo anche il caro Frans nel 2010 ci ha lasciato,

questa Lambretta è dedicata alla sua memoria, come uomo, come appassionato e soprattutto come amico.

I have never known any Lambretta enthusiast who doesn't like the Series 1 TV 175.

Although it features a beautifully designed bodyline, I believe people love it because it represents the true trait d'union between the early Lambrettas and the completely new generation that followed.

I have read in several places — as I wasn't there at the time — that it created quite a sensation when Innocenti launched it, and it is easy to believe if you consider that, until then, scooter riders had only experienced the rather modest performance of the LD150.

The TV175 also introduced this unique engine block which, although it caused headaches for owners back in the day, has become one of the model's most fascinating characteristics.

Like many classic cars and motorcycles produced in relatively small numbers and based on unusual engineering concepts, it has become extremely desirable and highly collectible today.

With those premises, I must admit that owning one had been one of my dreams for many years.

Despite being involved with Lambrettas since 1982, I never managed to find the classic bargain. In fact, I never managed to buy one at all. More than once I missed one for sale by only a few minutes at scooter fairs.

Eventually I stopped thinking about it. I had run out of storage space and prices had climbed so much that adding a TV175 Series 1 to my collection no longer seemed realistic.

Then luck stepped in.

At the end of 1999, Sticky from Scootering Magazine came to Italy to photograph my newly restored Racing Replica Lambrettas for a feature in the magazine.

While talking, he asked whether there were still scooters I dreamed of owning.

My answer was immediate: a Model A and a TV175 Series 1.

Unfortunately, I also told him that both had become so expensive that I had given up hope.

After the article appeared, many people contacted me to congratulate me.

One of them was my great friend Frans Hollander, President of the Lambretta Club Nederland.

Frans told me he had read about my long-standing dream of owning a TV175 and said I no longer had to search for one.

He had a complete scooter, already dismantled for restoration, and he was tired of restoring Lambrettas.

"If you want it... it's yours."

Of course I wanted it.

Life delayed things for a while, especially with the arrival of my son.

Finally, in March, Frans told me he was coming to Italy for the Reggio Emilia Scooter Show.

Thanks to another Dutch Lambretta enthusiast, the scooter travelled to Italy with him.

The meeting was arranged and, at last, I became the owner of the TV175 I had wanted for so many years.

The restoration began during the short breaks between changing nappies and feeding the baby.

That is what I wrote when I first collected the scooter.

In the meantime the restoration has been completed and the scooter won the award for Best Restored Scooter at the Isle of Elba Rally in 2006.

Sadly, in 2010 our dear friend Frans Hollander passed away.

This Lambretta is dedicated to Frans — the man, the enthusiast and, above all, the friend.
