1959 Lambretta TV 175 Series 2
It's one of those Lambrettas where originality matters. A heavily customised TV175 S2 can be a fantastic scooter, but an early, substantially original 1959 example is a much more historically interesting machine.

Mi trovavo in vacanza in Puglia quando distrattamente in totale relax sotto l'ombrellone, prendo in mano il telefono per dare una occhiata di routine al più famosi sito di annunci.
Così, un'abitudine, non devo più cercare nulla. Scorro la pagina ed appena pubblicata vedo questo gioiello di Lambretta originariamente corredata di rarissimi accessori da fare impallidire il collezionista più sgamato, come me. Scooter come questo, non saltano più fuori spesso, oggigiorno.
Di getto scrivo un messaggio al venditore, comunicandogli che non sono interessato all'acquisto perchè ne ho già una conservata che ho recentemente restaurato conservativamente, ma il mezzo che propone è veramente fuori dall'ordinario.
Mi ringrazia per le parole e la cosa finisce lì.
La mattina dopo ci rechiamo per l'abituale visita alla sempre bellissima Lecce e, mentre mia moglie sta facendo shopping in un negozio del centro, io d'impeto prendo il telefono e scrivo all'inserzionista, per comunicargli che ho intenzione di comprarla io. Così, senza pensarci due volte.
Ovviamente gli interessati sono tanti, per cui non c'è molto margine di trattativa anche perchè il venditore è un antiquario e sa fare bene il proprio mestiere, ma a questo punto non è più importante, deve essere mia. Grazie alla tecnologia, riesco anche ad inviare un acconto ed a chiudere la cosa con un appuntamento al mio ritorno dalle vacanze.
Puntualmente qualche giorno dopo il mio ritorno, parto per Asti dove la Lambretta si trova, probabilmente nella giornata più calda dell'estate con il furgoncino di un mio amico, che ha l'aria condizionata rotta. Per questo motivo parto alle 4 di notte, ma il ritorno verso mezzogiorno sarà un inferno.
Il progetto iniziale è quello di farne un restauro conservativo per conservarne la storia, ma la verniciatura e rimontaggio fatti a suo tempo sono veramente terribili e quindi decido per un restauro totale, anche perchè alcuni accessori devono essere riparati.
Di seguito le foto della Lambretta come è stata trovata ed in tutte la varie fasi del restauro che, al momento in cui scrivo, è ancora in corso.

I was on holidays in Puglia, relaxing on the beach, when I inadvertedly picked up my phone to take a routine look at the most popular classifieds site.
It was just a habit; I wasn't actually looking for anything. I was scrolling through the page when I spotted this gem of a Lambretta—originally fitted with such rare accessories that they would be a real surprise even for even a seasoned collector like me. Scooters like this one don't come up for sale much, these days.
On impulse, I messaged the seller. I told him I wasn't interested in buying it since I already hadn a well conserved one that I’d recently sympathetically restored but I acknowledged that the bike he was offering was truly extraordinary.
He thanked me for the kind words, and that was the end of it.
The following morning, we headed out for our usual visit to the ever beautiful town of Lecce. While I was waiting for my wife outside a shop in the city center, all of a sudden I grabbed my phone and messaged the seller again to say I wanted to buy it after all. Just like that without a second thought.
There was of course a lot of interested people, so there wasn't much room for negotiation, especially since the seller was an antique dealer who knew his trade well. But at that point, the price didn't matter; the bike had to be mine. Thanks to technology, I managed to send a deposit and finalize the deal, arranging to pick it up once I returned from vacation.
A few days after getting back, I set off for Asti, where the Lambretta was located, in a friend's van. It was likely the hottest day of the summer, and the van's air conditioning wasn't working. I left at 4:00 AM for that reason, but the drive back around midday turned out to be absolute hell.
The initial plan was to carry out a conservative restoration to preserve its history however, the paintwork and reassembly done in the past were truly terrible, so I decided to give it a full restoration job, also because some accessories needed repair.
