A Personal Interpretation of a Seventies Racer
This DL225 is has been in my collection since 1988 and has evolved over the years from a Supertune replica in dark bluw and white to a a seventies-style racer inspired by period tuning, but with my own personal interpretation.

Un'altra delle mie Lambretta storiche.
Questa fu adocchiata nel 1988 da un amico inglese durante una visita al mercatino di Imola.
Mentre passeggiavamo nel centro della città, si fermò davanti alla vetrina di un vecchio meccanico dove questa povera Lambretta era stata lasciata in un angolo del negozio.
All'epoca non ci facemmo troppo caso e lui mi chiese di tornare la settimana successiva per comprarla per suo conto. Sarebbe poi passato a ritirarla.
Io tornai, la comprai... ma lui non si fece mai più vedere.
La cosa mi seccò parecchio, soprattutto perché allora trovare Lambrette era facile ed economico.
Con il passare degli anni, però, avere una DL200 Electronic in garage divenne qualcosa di molto interessante.
Il primo restauro venne realizzato a metà degli anni Novanta, quando iniziai ad appassionarmi alle competizioni Lambretta degli anni Sessanta e Settanta.
L'idea fu quella di realizzare una replica delle trasformazioni Supertune, ispirata ad una Lambretta vista in un vecchio filmato dei Manchester Lyons.
Per il motore realizzai una classica elaborazione dell'epoca:
- pistone Honda 205;
- carburatore Dell'Orto 28 PHBH;
- pignone anteriore da 19 denti;
- marmitta originale Clubman.
Poi arrivò l'inverno del 2008.
Mi resi conto che il mondo Lambretta era ormai pieno di repliche Supertune tutte uguali tra loro.
Così decisi di ricominciare da capo.
L'obiettivo rimase quello di creare una racer anni Settanta, ma con uno stile completamente personale.
Oggi il motore monta:
- pistone da 70 mm;
- elaborazione tipicamente anni Settanta;
- carburatore 30 PHBH;
- pignone da 19 denti;
- la stessa fantastica marmitta Clubman.
Una racer anni Settanta... ma costruita esattamente come l'avrei fatta io all'epoca.

Another one of my historic Lambrettas.
This scooter was discovered in 1988 by an English friend, during one of his trips to Italy for a parts fair while we were walking around the Imola centre.
He stopped in front of the window of an old mechanic shop where this rather sorry looking Lambretta was lying abandoned in a corner.
He asked me to return the following week and buy it on his behalf, promising he would come back to collect it.
I did exactly that...
...but he never came back.
At the time I was quite annoyed because sourcing Lambrettas was still easy and cheap.
A few years later, however, owning a genuine DL200 Electronic became something rather special.
The first restoration took place during the mid-1990s, when I caught the early Lambretta racing bug.
I decided to build a Supertune replica, inspired by one I had seen in an old Manchester Lyons racing video.
The engine received a typical period conversion:
- Honda 205 piston.
- Dell'Orto 28 PHBH carburettor.
- 19-tooth front sprocket.
- Original Clubman exhaust.
Then came the winter of 2008.
I realised there were simply too many Supertune replicas around.
So I stripped the scooter once again and rebuilt it with the same seventies racing spirit, but this time following my own personal taste.
The engine now features:
- 70 mm piston.
- Typical seventies tuning.
- Dell'Orto 30 PHBH carburettor.
- 19-tooth sprocket.
- The same wonderful Clubman exhaust.
Still a seventies racer — but now unmistakably my own interpretation.
